The charges will go from £5 to £8, while the time limit will change from 15 minutes to 10, both of which will take effect from 3pm today (29 Sept).
Bosses cite "significant inflationary pressures and ongoing investment requirements", adding the fees haven't changed in the last five years.
Labour MP for North West Leicestershire, Amanda Hack, called the changes "frustrating". In a statement on social media, she said: "The way the Rapid Drop Off is currently set up feels stacked against consumers.
"I already deal with numerous complaints from constituents and people across the UK who have received a £100 parking penalty notice because they simply forgot to pay. Increasing the price while simultaneously reducing the time allowed is only likely to make this situation worse."
The news has been met with anger from members of the public too, with one man writing on Facebook: "Why are they charging people to drop friends and relatives off in the first place?"
Another person commented: "I live near the airport but won't use it."
The airport says the Rapid Drop Off area offers premium space just steps from the check-in hall, but also added: "An alternative free arrangement is available, with free parking for up to an hour in a long-stay car park ten minutes’ walk to the terminal."
