Council calls for donations to displaced after major Folkestone hotel fire
The fire has been treated as suspicious, with two people arrested
Folkestone Council is asking for donations for those displaced by last weekend's major hotel fire.
Since then Kent Fire and Rescue have returned to the site due to what is thought to be smouldering clothes some days later, and the hotel's overall structural integrity has been called into question, leading to the evacuation of ninety neighbouring flats.
In a recent post on Facebook, Folkestone and Hythe council said:
"Thank you for all your donations so far to support those who cannot return to their homes while structural investigations into the Grand Burstin Hotel continue.
"We kindly ask that items are not left on the doorstep of the collection point and are instead brought directly into the Cheriton Community Network.
"Here are some suggestions of what you can bring:
• Clothing (clean and clearly labelled)
• Unopened underwear would also be greatly appreciated
• Fresh hygiene products
• Food items such as cereals, breakfast bars and ready meals
"Donations can be taken to Cheriton Community Network (Cheriton High Street, Folkestone, CT19 4DX) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 10am and 2pm."
There is currently no known timeline for those displaced by the hotel fire to be returned to their homes.
