Arrest after Winston Churchill statue defaced in Parliament Square

A 38-year-old man has been arrested by the Metropolitan Police after allegedly defacing the statue of Sir Winston Churchill in Westminster with graffiti.

The arrest was made shortly after 4am on 27th February when a man was seen spraying several phrases onto the bronze statue located in Parliament Square.

The man was taken into custody on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said officers arrived at the scene within two minutes of the incident being reported.

"He remains in custody," the spokesperson said.
