Brothers jailed for killing man in Wolverhampton on Christmas Day

Two brothers have been jailed for a total of 30 years after a man was attacked, chased and stabbed in Wolverhampton.
Richard Beckles, 19, has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 22 years.
Tiego Beckles, 21, has been jailed for eight years.
Trey Johnson, aged 30, died in the early hours of Christmas morning 2025 after sustaining a single stab wound to his chest.
At around 2.15am, Trey attended an event at the De Fusion nightclub on Exchange Street, Wolverhampton. Around 45 minutes later, he left the venue and was attacked by Richard and Tiego Beckles.
The brothers launched a brutal attack that lasted around eight minutes. Trey was punched and kicked several times and suffered serious injuries, including a fracture to his left eye socket.
After the attack, the brothers left in a Peugeot SUV and headed back to their family's address on Burcot Avenue. Trey got into his vehicle and also drove towards the address. As the brothers pulled up outside, they spotted him. Richard Beckles got out and was captured on CCTV chasing after Trey with a large knife, while Tiego Beckles recovered a large weapon from the address before following behind his brother.
Richard Beckles caught up with Trey and inflicted a fatal stab wound to his chest. Trey was declared dead by paramedics at the scene soon after. By this time, both brothers had fled.
Police launched a manhunt and issued a public appeal to locate the brothers. On 7 January, Richard Beckles, 19, and Tiego Beckles, 21, attended Wolverhampton Police Station, where they were arrested on suspicion of Trey Johnson's murder and later charged.
Following a three-week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Richard Beckles was found guilty of murder and possession of a knife, and Tiego Beckles was found guilty of manslaughter. Both were also convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to the earlier attack outside the nightclub.
DI Michelle Cordell, from West Midlands Police Homicide Unit, said: “The Beckles brothers subjected Trey Johnson to a sustained and brutal attack outside the De Fusion bar in the early hours of Christmas Day."
“The dispute continued in Burcot Avenue and it is clear that the brothers were intent on further conflict and violence. “Both armed themselves with weapons and both gave chase towards an already injured Trey. Richard Beckles stabbed Trey with considerable force causing his fatal injury."
"When you choose to carry and use a knife, it is entirely foreseeable that serious injury is likely to be caused and tragically in this case, it led to Trey’s death. After killing him, they fled the scene and went on the run for several days before handing themselves in following a public appeal. "
“Their actions were cowardly and heartless. My thoughts remain with Trey’s family and loved ones at what continues to be an unimaginably difficult time."

In tribute to Trey, his family said: “We, the family of Trey Johnson, including his mother, siblings, children, cousins, and aunts, respectfully dedicate this tribute to his memory. Trey Johnson was a devoted father, a beloved brother and a cherished son.
"Trey was also a great father figure to his sibling, with a promising future. Trey was known for his kindness, peaceful demeanour, and willingness to assist and care for others. Above all, Trey was a respectful and dedicated individual."
