Police in Brighton have launched an investigation following the recovery of three women's bodies from the sea near Black Rock car park off Madeira Drive on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were alerted at around 5.45am and upon arrival, discovered the bodies in the water.
After thorough enquiries, police believe they have identified the three women, and their next of kin have been informed.
Formal identification procedures are ongoing, with police refraining from publicly naming the women until these are completed.
Specialist officers are providing support to the families of the deceased during this difficult time.
The investigation aims to ascertain how the women came to be in the water, with current findings not suggesting any third-party involvement or criminal activity.
Chief Superintendent Adam Hays addressed the heartbreaking incident, expressing sympathy for the families and emphasizing the priority of seeking answers.
“This is an utterly heartbreaking tragedy, and my thoughts are with the loved ones of these three young women after their devastating loss,” Hays said.
He requested public patience during the sensitive investigation and urged anyone with information to assist by contacting police online or via 101, quoting Operation Ledmore.
As the enquiry continues, police remain focused on gathering evidence without speculation, ensuring transparency as soon as facts are confirmed.
