Three asylum seekers have been sentenced to a total 60.5 years in prison after raping a woman on Brighton beach.

Egyptian national Ibrahim Alshafe, 26, and Iranian national Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, were jailed for 21 years each for raping the woman on October 4 last year, while Egyptian national Karin Al-Danasurt, 21, was sentenced to 18 years and six months.

The sentencing at Hove Crown Court on Wednesday was told that all three will serve a further six years on extended licence.

Jurors at Hove Crown Court heard they targeted a woman in her thirties after she'd become separated from friends on a night out in October.

They had been living in Cisswood House Hotel, a Home Office approved accommodation in Horsham, at the time.

Footage was shared of the men having a barbeque after the attack which the woman said "ruined her life".

In her victim impact statement, she shared that she could "tear her skin off and still feel dirty" - adding she is too scared to go out alone.

"Most nights when I try to sleep all I hear is the wave and seagulls and men laughing at me," she told the court.

The men took her behind a beach hut and raped her repeatedly while Al-Danasurt filmed the attack, capturing Alshafe 'smiling and making gestures' as it happened.

Prosecutors added that there was "evident enjoyment by all defendants", and none have demonstrated remorse.

As she handed down her sentence, Her Honour Judge Henson KC said the three caused their victim severe psychological harm: "The impact on your victim was and continues to be devastating.

"It has had a life-changing, profound and irrevocable impact on her.

"She describes that most of the time her life is now unbearable.”
