Rain set to return this weekend after warm spell over NI

The clouds have returned over Northern Ireland this past week, but it looks like they're bringing rain for the next couple of days.

Steve Willington, Met Office chief forecaster, explains: “The high pressure has been a key feature of the UK’s weather forecast over the last few weeks, bringing above-average temperatures and extremely dry conditions for many.

"However, we will begin to see a modest change as a weak weather front pushes south across the UK on Saturday bringing some much-needed rain, albeit it light and mainly concentrated in the north and west.

"Behind the front a showery air mass will bring potentially heavy showers some of which may be thundery.”

Northern Ireland five-day forecast:

Today: Chance of a little drizzle across the north at first. Otherwise it will be dry with variable amounts of cloud and some sunny spells. Warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight: This evening will be dry with some late brightness in places. Then the rest of the night will be mainly dry but the odd shower possible in the north later. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Friday: Chance of a light shower in the north at first otherwise dry with some sunshine by afternoon. Patchy light rain in the evening. Warm. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Cloudy on Saturday with outbreaks of rain spreading southeast at times. A few early showers on Sunday otherwise dry. Chance of rain on Monday.
