A woman had to be rescued from her home in Co Down after a petrol bomb attack in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

The woman was inside the property in the Manse Court area of Saintfield when a petrol bomb was thrown through the window.

Police said they were treating the incident as "arson with intent to endanger life."

A PSNI spokesperson said: “At approximately 1.15am, it was reported that a window had been smashed and a petrol bomb had been throw into the property, causing it to catch fire.

“Officers along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended and a female resident was rescued from house.

“This is being treated as arson with intent to endanger life and I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anyone suspicious in the area or to anyone with CCTV, doorbell or other footage that could assist with enquiries to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 65 01/04/26.
