Viable device discovered in Co Armagh security alert

A viable explosive device was discovered by police during a security alert in Co Armagh.

One man was arrested following the alert in the Carrive Road area of Silverbridge on Saturday.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Shortly after 8.45am officers attended a property in the area and located a suspicious device.

“The area was closed to road users and members of the public, with a number of diversions put in place.

“Ammunition technical officers attended the scene, and carried out a controlled explosion on the device, which was deemed to be viable.

“One man aged in his 20s has been arrested in relation to the incident, and remains in police custody, assisting with enquiries.

“Road closures in the area have now been lifted.”

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact them.
