Police remain at scene in west Belfast following suspicious death

Police are maintaining a presence at the scene of a suspicious death in west Belfast for a second day.

The death was reported at an address in the Helen’s Wood Court area of Dunmurry on Saturday.

One person, who was arrested on Saturday, remained in custody on Sunday, police said.

A police spokesperson issued an appeal for information.

“A post-mortem will take place in due course and enquiries are ongoing,” they said.

“There is no further information at this stage; however, an update will be issued, once available.

“We would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police using our witness appeal form at https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals quoting 818 of 27/06/26, or to call us on 101.”

Sinn Féin MLA Orlaithi Flynn has expressed shock and sadness at the news.

“My immediate thoughts are with this individual’s family and friends. Their grief will be immeasurable right now,” she said.

“Anyone with information should bring it forward to the PSNI immediately and assist with its investigation.”

Independent councillor Paul Doherty said local people are shocked and concerned.

“My thoughts are first and foremost with the person’s family and friends, who will be facing unimaginable grief at this time,” he said.

“Thinking also of all those affected in the local community.

“Anyone with information should contact the PSNI immediately and assist them with their inquiries.”
