Man charged after off-duty police officer shot

The suspect has been charged with attempted murder

He's also charged with false imprisonment and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life

A man has been charged in relation to the shooting of an off-duty police officer in Northern Ireland.

The officer suffered non life-threatening injuries in the incident on the Beverley Road area of Newtownabbey at around 9.30pm on Monday.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Police said a 29-year-old man was charged on Friday with offences including attempted murder, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
