Police give all-clear following Newtownabbey security alert

Police have given the all-clear following a security alert in Newtownabbey.

It follows the examination of a suspicious object found yesterday in the Woodland Drive area.

A security operation in the area has now ended and evacuated residents have returned home.

A PSNI statement said, “A security alert in the Woodland Drive area of Newtownabbey has now ended.”

“Police received a report at approximately 2.35pm on Thursday, 15th January of a suspicious object in the area.”

“Officers attended the scene, along with Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO), who examined the device and deemed it as nothing untoward.”

“Those who were evacuated during the public safety operation have now returned to their homes.”
