Newry stabbing leaves man with 'life-changing injuries'

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

A 41 year old man's been left with life-changing injuries after being stabbed in the leg in Newry.

It happened at a house on Talbot Street at around 10.30 last night.

Two men - aged 22 and 35 - have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson said, ā€œWe were alerted by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service at 10:35pm to an incident in a house on Talbot Street where a man had been stabbed in his leg.ā€

"Our officers attended the scene where they arrested two men, aged 22 and 35 years old, both on suspicion of attempted murder.ā€

"The male victim, aged 41 years old, was taken to hospital where he remains this morning undergoing surgery.ā€

"The two men we arrested remain in custody as we continue with our enquiries. ā€œ

"This was a savage attack which has left the victim with life changing injuries, and I want to appeal to anyone who was in the Talbot Street area last night, prior to or around the time the incident was reported to us, to get in touch.ā€

"Anyone who has information which can help us establish what occurred is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 2031 of 24/01/20 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
