More than 40 firefighters work to extinguish blaze at water treatment facility in Portrush

More than 40 firefighters have worked to extinguish an overnight blaze at a water treatment facility in Portrush.

They were called out in the early hours of this morning to the incident on the Roselick Road.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said, “NIFRS responded to an incident at a NI Water treatment facility on Roselick Road, Portrush on 23rd December 2025 at 02:21hrs.”

“45 firefighters were mobilised to deal with the incident. There were 6 pumping appliances, an aerial appliance and a command support unit in attendance.”

“There was a fire involving the roof of a building on the site, which has been extinguished using 5 fire-fighting jets and an aerial appliance.”

A spokesperson for NI Water said, “NI Water can confirm that a fire occurred at our North Coast Wastewater Treatment Works on Roselick Road, Portrush, in the early hours of Tuesday, 23 December 2025."

"The fire has been successfully extinguished by Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS). The facility is operational, with main treatment processes currently unaffected. NI Water continues to work closely with NIFRS as investigations progress and has also notified the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA).”
