Man shot in the leg in West Belfast
It happened in an alleyway last night
A man in his 40's has been taken to hospital after being shot in the leg in West Belfast.
It happened in an alleyway near the Falls Road last night.
Police say although his injuries are severe they aren't believed to be life threatening.
PSNI Detective Inspector Griffin said, “At approximately 9.35pm, we received a report that our colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service were attending to a man with a gunshot wound in the vicinity of the Falls Road area.”
“Officers attended the scene and located the man, aged in his late 40s, in an alley that runs between the Falls Road and Ross Road. He was shot once in his leg and has been taken to hospital for treatment.”
“Although his injuries are thankfully not life-threatening, they are severe and will no doubt leave him with lasting physical and emotional trauma.”
“This attack has caused fear and disruption in the very community those responsible for this criminal act claim to protect and there is no justification for this violence.”
West Belfast MP Paul Maskey said, “I condemn last night’s shooting in the Ross Road area of west Belfast.”
"There is no place for this type of violence in our community. It is completely unacceptable and is not wanted by local people.”
"Those responsible need to stop and think about the fear and distress their actions cause in the community."
