Five people taken to hospital following Co Londonderry crash

Five people have been taken to hospital following a serious crash in County Londonderry.

It happened shortly before 7 this morning in the Tamnadeese Road area of Castledawson.

A statement from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said, “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 06:45 on Tuesday 26th August, following reports of an RTC in the Tamnadeese Road area, Castledawson.”

“NIAS dispatched 6 Emergency Ambulances to the scene. The Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board were also tasked to the incident.”

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, 3 people were taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast by Ambulance. Another 2 people were taken to Antrim Area Hospital by Ambulance.”

Meanwhile a statement from police this morning said, "Motorists are advised that the northbound lane of the Glenshane Road, Castledawson, is closed to traffic from the Castledawson roundabout, due to a serious road traffic collision."

"Please seek an alternative route for your journey, and plan for delays in the area."
