East Belfast: "No risk to wider public" after emergency services respond to report of chemical incident

We're told there is no risk to the wider public after emergency services responded to the report of a chemical incident in East Belfast this morning.

Police have made the assurance amid online speculation about the incident in the Harper Street area.

We're told one person's been left in the care of the ambulance service, and firefighters have left the scene after doing checks.

A PSNI statement said, “Police and emergency services are currently in attendance in the Harper Street area of east Belfast on Wednesday 9th September.”

“We are aware of online speculation in relation to the nature of this incident, at this time, there is not believed to be a wider threat to the public”

A NIFRS statement said, “Firefighters were called to reports of a chemical incident on Harper Street, Ballymacarrett, Belfast. Firefighters assessed the incident alongside other emergency services and 1 person was left in the care of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Firefighters left the scene at 11.41am.”
