Boy, 14, becomes second teenager arrested over Londonderry disorder

A 14-year-old boy has become the second teenager to be arrested by police investigating disorder in Londonderry earlier this week.

Police were attacked with petrol bombs and masonry in the Bishop Street area on Tuesday evening.

They said there had been a number of incidents of antisocial behaviour in the Bishop Street, The Fountain and Nailors Row areas in the past week.

Previously, a 13-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour, and has since been released on bail.

On Wednesday evening, police said a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour and remained in custody at that time.

Derry City and Strabane area commander, Chief Superintendent Gillian Kearney said: “The investigation to identify all those involved continues, and we will take action against anyone identified as committing offences.”
