Amount of men presenting as homeless due to domestic violence in Northern Ireland rising
Figures obtained by us show there has been an over 25 percent rise in men presenting as homeless due to domestic violence in Northern Ireland over the past five years.
Figures from the Housing Executive show in 2025 almost 200 men said they'd left their home because of domestic abuse.
That figure was 151 in 2020.
A PSNI spokesperson said the majority of reports are made by women and girls but that doesn't diminish the impact of these crimes on men.
The chairman for the charity Men's Alliance Carey Baxter has told us he fears it could be the tip of the iceberg:
"Are these numbers increasing because there are more men disclosing domestic abuse?
"Or because there are more men looking for housing because of domestic abuse?
"We don't know the answer, but what we do know is that 50% of men do not disclose they are a victim of domestic abuse."
