Casualty returns this weekend for a brand new series
The hospital drama is loved by viewers
With no Christmas special in 2025 and no new episodes for a number of months, fans of BBC hospital drama Casualty have been waiting patiently for the new series, and now the wait is finally over.
The hit show returns to our screens this weekend, for a brand new series titled Learning Curve, featuring the show's much-loved characters in Holby City's A&E department. Here's everything you need to know about series 40.
When is Casualty back on TV?
Following a break, Casualty returns for a new series at 8.45pm on Saturday 10th January 2026.
New episodes will then air every Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer for 12 weeks.
What is the new series called?
The new series is called Learning Curve.
What is the new series about?
The BBC say of Learning Curve: 'As the Emergency Department is overwhelmed and the CQC closes in, Flynn and Siobhan must unite the team as tensions threaten to break it apart.
'Faith and Iain struggle to overcome a new challenge in their relationship, as Cam and Indie’s romance heats up. Meanwhile, two new arrivals shake the ED up. Will they adapt to the job or fall at the first hurdle?'
Is there a trailer?
The dramatic trailer was released on Tuesday 6th January, showing two new trainee doctors (Matty and Kim) joining the ED. The short clip also appears to show Faith discovering she is pregnant, with the new series "diving into themes of resilience, acceptance and repairing fractured bonds."

Learning Curve will be made up of 12 episodes.
How long do the episodes last?
All 12 episodes have a running time between 40-50 minutes.

Where is it filmed?
Although it was previously filmed in Bristol, filming for Casualty moved to Cardiff in 2011, at BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff Bay. The studios are located in Porth Teigr.
