Comedy spin-off Amandaland received rave reviews when it first dropped on BBC One in 2025, following on from the huge success of its predecessor, Motherland. And now the star-studded show has gathered a new following, as the series has now dropped on Netflix!
After viewers dubbed the first series 'comedy gold' — pulling in a HUGE 7.4 million viewers — BBC bosses wasted no time renewing the show for a second series, with filming now underway. And now we've been told we're getting a Comic Relief special too, starring more famous faces.
Lucy Punch and Philippa Dunne, who play funny friends Amanda and Anne, will be joined by an array of famous Amandas for the Red Nose Day special on Friday 20th March, including The Traitors' former detective Amanda Collier and Corrie legend Amanda Barrie.
What is Amandaland?
Centred around PTA mum Amanda (Lucy Punch) and the hilarious situations she finds herself in at the school gates of London, she's joined by former Motherland castmates Joanna Lumley, who plays her mother, Felicity, and Philippa Dunne as her friend, Anne.
Also in the cast is Gavin & Stacey's Samuel Anderson, Derry Girls' Siobhan McSweeney, Line of Duty's Rochenda Sandall, Ekow Quartey from Trying and Peter Serafinowicz, from The Gentlemen.
The synopsis for the show reads: 'Post her divorce, Amanda has had to downsize and up sticks to South Harlesden, or as the Estate Agent calls it SoHa (definitely not the area around Wormwood Scrubs prison).
'With both Manus and Georgie now at secondary school, Amanda has to try and get her head around raising teenagers, dealing with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and eco anxiety. Not even a woman as certain of her parenting as Amanda can deal with these nightmares alone.
'Amanda’s mother Felicity (Joanna Lumley) is constantly around, and completely in denial that she is, in fact, lonely. Theirs is a slightly unhealthy co-dependent relationship based on backhanded compliments and veiled snipes about her new home.
'After a brief spell of freedom, Anne (Philippa Dunne) is sucked back into being Amanda’s minion to help her navigate the social scene with the other parents at the children’s new school. Thank God for Anne.'

Is Amandaland getting a second series?
Yes! On 6th March 2025 the BBC revealed Amandaland had officially been renewed for a second season, after it became a huge hit with TV audiences.
Co-writer and creator Holly Walsh said: “We've been bowled over by the response to Amandaland and can't wait to get co-labbing on the next series.”
On Tuesday 21st October, the BBC confirmed filming for the second series has begun, as well as announcing a Christmas special, which aired in 2025.
At the time, Amanda actress Lucy Punch said: "I’m beyond excited to get started on Amandaland series two with our brilliantly talented lovely cast. The Christmas special is going to be an absolute cracker – it’s like totes fire, with all the festive feels, for reals. Slay bells!"
Co-writer and creator Holly Walsh and co-writer Laurence Rickard added: "It’s an absolute joy to be back in SoHa (South Harlesden) again. After six months of researching Brent Council’s fly tipping rules, attempting Anne’s Irish accent and writing the odd bit of script, we’re so excited to get filming with our amazing cast. We're thrilled to bits to have a Christmas special and Jennifer Saunders is the perfect addition to the gang."
