Former Oasis front man Liam Gallagher has said he will always hold a grudge against his brother Noel for ‘splitting the band up too early.’

Speaking exclusively to John Kearns for Cool FM, the singer-songwriter revealed he still wonders what he could have done differently, ten years on from the explosive break-up.

The iconic Rock ‘n’ Roll band fell apart after Noel quit in August 2009 and the pair have been engaged in a very public, ongoing feud ever since.

Liam said of his brother:

“Everyone bangs on about Noel being the driving force behind Oasis, yes he wrote the songs but I was the one knocking at the door going ‘let’s get in the studio.’

“We should never have split up and that’s the way it is and I’ll always have the hump with him.”

The Gallagher brothers worked together for 18 years since Oasis was formed in 1991 but tensions reportedly simmered under the surface for some time prior to their break up.

After the split, Liam has repeatedly said he was too ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll for Noel.

He told John Kearns he wanted the band to stay together and still has not made peace with what happened:

“I think he split the band up too early and I think it was all for selfish reasons, I’m still scratching my head to think what I did.

“I didn’t kick his cat, I didn’t try it on with his Mrs, I might have cancelled a few gigs here and there and stayed up a bit too late but we’re not S Club 7 we were a Rock ‘n’ Roll band.

“I just think he wanted out and the only way he was going to get out of it was to lay a few booby traps for me to walk into and blame me which was unfair.

“Noel thinks he was the only God-given person to ever write a song and it should only be one Gallagher making music, well I’ve got news for him- I’m here and I’m not going away.”

Speaking as he launched his new solo album, Why me? Why not? Liam told us he has enjoyed recording again after four years away from the studio.

“(My voice) is all I’ve got.

“I’ve always loved being in the studio, I’ve always loved being in and around the band and my ego is not that out of control where if I come up with an idea and someone goes ‘not too sure about that’ I don’t smash the gaffe up I go ‘cool let’s move on.'

“As long as you’re allowed to throw your ideas around, that’s the idea."

After admitting he was not fully satisfied with his last record, he insisted he is open to creative suggestions in the studio:

“I feel confident but not in an arrogant way, I feel like people are back on board... I felt like people had just had enough of me and my time was kind of up and if that was the case then so be it I’ve had a good run.

“Oasis was mega, we did things out of our wildest dreams and I just thought maybe the guy with the parka on who doesn’t do much except scream into a microphone, maybe his time was up.

“I put As you were out and people dig it but I knew it could be better definitely and this one I think’s better than that.

“I’m buzzing to be back and have that connection with the fans again and loving doing the gigs and hopefully if this goes well, I'll do another album.

“I had four years not doing anything so there’s a lot of making up to be done.”

Liam Gallagher’s new album Why me? Why not? is out now.
