Northern Irish TV presenter Eamonn Holmes has taken to social media to give an update on his health, after suffering a stroke last week.

Sharing a photo of his adorable granddaughters holding up a home made 'get well soon' sign, Eamonn told his Instagram followers: 'As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well - I will do my best to get well SOOM 👍🏼'. (sic)

The 66-year-old then thanked fans for their kind well wishes, adding: 'Thank you for all of your many many good wishes, they give me strength 🤗'. (sic)

News of Eamonn's stroke was first announced by GB News, with the broadcaster saying about their presenter: “Eamonn Holmes was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.”

Eamonn's son Declan then provided a further update on his health on Sunday (12th April), saying: 'What happened came as a real shock, but dad is doing OK given the circumstances and we’re taking it one step at a time.

'I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family. For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him.

'We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.'

Eamonn, who was a presenter on This Morning until 2024, has been open and honest about his health issues over the years, with the presenter undergoing a double hip replacement, as well as spinal surgery.

In recent years, Eamonn has also had difficulty walking due to chronic pain, resulting in him using a mobility scooter.

Following the news of his stroke, Angelos Frangopoulos, chief executive of GB News, commented: “Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.”
