A man who killed a teenager and left another fighting for his life after a crash in Shropshire has been jailed for seven years.

Danny Francis was drunk when his Range Rover hit two motorcyclists near Rowton Castle in 2023.

Benjamin Worrall was pronounced dead at the scene, while his friend Nathan has had to undergo extensive medical treatment, including amputation of his leg due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The fatal crash happened just after midnight on 1st October 2023, involving a Range Rover driven by Francis while he was over the drink-drive limit. Despite Nathan’s cries for help following the collision, Francis fled the scene and called someone to collect him, later being arrested at a friend’s address.

Francis was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs, failing to stop at the scene, failing to report a collision, and perverting the course of justice. He pleaded guilty to all charges in August 2025.

Benjamin’s motorbike group lent their support at the sentencing, with up to 30 members attending Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Evidence submitted to the court showed Francis visiting nine pubs during the afternoon and evening of 30th September 2023, drinking pints and shots before driving with up to seven passengers between venues.

CCTV footage from the collision scene highlighted the severity of the impact, capturing Nathan’s cries for help, which he specifically requested be shared to convey the devastating consequences of Francis’ actions.

The sentencing judge called Francis’ behaviour “reckless and dangerous,” adding that the tragic loss and harm caused to Benjamin and Nathan were avoidable.
