It’s Happy Hour again! Paul Heaton says he’s planning to put money behind the bar at pubs to mark his 65th birthday next year.
Back on 9th May 2022, Paul Heaton celebrated his 60th birthday by putting £1,000 behind the bar at 60 UK pubs so punters could have a drink on him.
The following year, the Beautiful South and Housemartins legend once again left money behind the bar at four Warrington pubs ahead of his appearance at Neighbourhood Weekender.
Appearing on BBC Breakfast this week to promote his new solo album ‘Jenius’, Paul was asked about his generous pledges for pubgoers.
“It was for my 60th,” Paul said. “I’ve done a few things like that, and I picked 60 pubs – some of which I knew and some of which I didn’t – and just put some money behind the bar for people to have a drink on my birthday.
“I shall probably do it again, hopefully, next year. Maybe 65 is quite a nice round figure.”
When asked how he picked the pubs, Paul responded: “Some of them I’ve been in, some of them I just ask people, ‘what’s a really good pub in Nottingham?’ or wherever, somewhere I haven’t been recently.
“There’s money behind the bar until it goes, you know, until it runs out. I just thought it would be a nice thing to do to give people back some… and they didn’t have to be Paul Heaton fans – although they might be now after I’ve bought them a pint!”
A true man of the people, Paul Heaton always keeps ticket prices as low as possible for his concerts, with his upcoming UK tour costing £39 for each ticket.
“I'm very much against greed within the industry because I feel as though there is a quite a lot,” Paul explained. “And so, we're trying to just battle and just say, ‘look, we'll do it as far as low as we can’ and set a bit of an example.”
