Oasis fans predicted to spend over £1 billion on UK reunion tour
A huge boost for the economy
A new study claims that Oasis fans will spend an estimated £1.06 billion on the legendary band’s upcoming UK reunion tour.
Opening with two shows at Cardiff Principality Stadium on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July, Oasis’ completely sold-out 17-date UK tour also includes multiple dates in Manchester, London, and Edinburgh.
Barclays bank has calculated that the 1.4 million Oasis fans attending the shows will each spend £766 each on tickets, transport, accommodation, merchandise, food and drink.
If Barclays’ estimates are indeed true, Oasis fans will spend over £1 billion this summer giving the economy – and Liam and Noel Gallagher’s bank balances – a huge boost.
Spending on the Oasis tour is part of a cultural shift towards music fans prioritising memorable experiences over physical items – known as the “experience economy”.
Rich Robinson, head of hospitality and leisure at Barclays, said: “The experience economy is no longer a trend, it’s a fundamental shift in how consumers determine their financial priorities.
“Just as we saw with last year’s (Taylor Swift) Eras Tour, fans are willing to go to great lengths when there is an emotional connection.”
Oasis and Ticketmaster sparked national outrage in September when dynamic pricing was applied to some reunion tour tickets.
Barclays bases its estimates on its own customers’ spending habits, who account for 40% of the UK’s consumer spending on credit and debit cards.
A separate Barclays study in April claimed that Oasis fans have lost more than £2 million to ticket scams for the reunion tour.
