Jimmy Page says he’s “thrilled” that director Greta Gerwig used Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ to soundtrack the official trailer for her upcoming movie Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.
Although a handful Led Zeppelin songs have appeared in movies, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have long denied requests for their 1971 epic ‘Stairway to Heaven’ to feature on the silver screen.
On Tuesday evening (13th October), the official trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew premiered and it features ‘Stairway to Heaven’ throughout.
Taking to Instagram to share the trailer, Jimmy Page explained why he’d given Gerwig the green light: “I had the privilege of meeting Greta Gerwig, a powerhouse in the world of cinema.
“She is a switched on creative, as seen by way of Little Women, Lady Bird and Barbie, and the soon to be released Narnia movie.
“I am thrilled that she chose Stairway to Heaven in the trailer for her film.”

According to Variety, Gerwig personally wrote to songwriters Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and ‘showed them an early cut of the film to convince them to let her use their rock anthem for the big screen.’
“It’s an epic song, and narratively, about a spiritual journey, a path of fake idols and wrong roads you can go down. It made sense to introduce the world,” Gerwig said.
“I was so moved that they allowed me to use this song. They saw the heart and story of the film.”
Written for the screen and directed by Greta Gerwig and based on the novel by C. S. Lewis, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew hits cinemas on 11th February 2027.
Cast members include Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough and Susan Wokoma.
A brief synopsis reads: 'Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig brings C. S. Lewis’ beloved story The Magician’s Nephew to the screen for the first time in a sweeping adventure that invites dreamers of all ages to experience the creation of Narnia.'
