Chrissie Hynde has announced that her new album will be a star-studded affair featuring a host of special guests.
‘Duets Special’ is set for release on 17th October via Parlophone and includes collaborations with The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, Debbie Harry, Depeche Mode‘s Dave Gahan, the late Mark Lanegan, Garbage’s Shirley Manson and more.
Speaking of the album’s development, the Pretenders singer said the idea came about in 2023, with singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright being the first person she indirectly reached out to.
“I was talking to Jörn, Rufus Wainwright’s husband, on the phone. I think we were recommending novels to each other, and for some reason, I said, ‘Hey, maybe Rufus and I should do something,’ and quickly scribbled out 10 songs off the top of my head,” Hynde explained.
“So Jörn asked Rufus, who was up for it, and that’s how it started. A spontaneous and what I thought would be a fun thing.”
