We are absolutely thrilled to have had Kacey Musgraves visit us here at Absolute Radio Country. Chatting about everything from trailer parks to her love for the UK, Kacey caught up with our very own Baylen Leonard to lift the lid on her brand new album 'Middle of Nowhere'.

Released on 1st May 2026, Kacey told Baylen all about how she enjoyed putting her sense of humour into her new music, before candidly talking about the rise of women in country music - something she is very much "here for".

After Baylen brought up that both Megan Moroney and Ella Langley consider Kacey to be a huge inspiration for them, she said: "That's really cool to see a bunch of girls making great music and really kind of dominating country at this point.

"Like, there's been a long period of time where that was not the case, and everything sounded very male and very the same. And it's just really awesome to see some diversity, some, creative songwriting. I'm like, here for it."

When Baylen brought up that women had led the country charge through the 90s (we're looking at you, Shania!), Kacey agreed: "They were, even until like the early 2000s. And then it kind of like, really dropped off around like 2008, 9, 10, 2012. Then that's kind of when I started, 'Same Trailer Different Park' came out. I think it's about 2013."

Kacey also opened up about her new record, 'Middle of Nowhere': "It's 13 songs and it's a love letter to the many shades of country that I grew up on, but also infusing a lot of other styles too and I have some amazing features on it, obviously. Willie Nelson had to be on there. We have Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings and Gregory Alan Isakoff."

She added: "I love sense of humour in songs. And I did that a lot on my first couple records and I kind of got away from it. I was just inspired to paint with some other colours, but it just has felt really good to kind of come back to that."
