Body found during search for missing Elgin man

Formal identification is yet to take place, but Ryann Ferguson's family have been informed.

A man's body has been found during the search for a missing person from Elgin.

Emergency services were called out close to Cullen harbour earlier this afternoon.

A body was recovered from the water. Formal identification is yet to take place, but Ryann Ferguson's family have been informed.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A police appeal was issued last week, as the 38-year-old was last seen on Tuesday morning.

Police Scotland confirmed a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson said: "Around 1.55pm on Monday, 23 March, 2026, we received a report of a body discovered in water near Cullen harbour.

"Emergency services attended and the body of a man was recovered.

"Formal identification has yet to take place, however, the family of Ryann Ferguson, reported missing from the Elgin area, has been informed.

"The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
