Firefighters have worked overnight to tackle a large blaze at a recycling centre in March.

Crews from March, Chatteris, Wisbech, Manea, Whittlesey, and a water carrier from Ramsey were called to the scene on Knights End Road shortly after 7pm on Thursday (16 April).

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered thick smoke and a large pile of scrap metal on fire.

Using jets and hose reels, the teams worked to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.

By 5.30am, firefighters had scaled down their operations and left the site.

Residents nearby were advised to keep windows and doors closed during the incident due to the heavy smoke.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
